Mountaincroft Park
Collingwood, ON – 2018
Located in Collingwood’s Mountaincroft subdivision, Mountaincroft Park was developed through extensive community engagement, including a community design charrette that resulted in a design that reflects neighbourhood priorities.
Working with Town staff, Envision-Tatham created a park supporting play, outdoor learning and year-round recreation. A central boardwalk-inspired concrete promenade connects separate tot and youth playgrounds, a shaded picnic pavilion and gathering spaces. The main oval green accommodates informal sports and open play, encircled by a smooth asphalt loop that provides a dedicated space for children to develop their cycling, skateboarding and other wheeled recreation skills within view of caregivers.
A sculpted hill invites rolling and play in summer and tobogganing in winter. The north lawn accommodates a community-managed natural skating rink supported by a winterized yard hydrant. A terraced stone outdoor classroom serves adjacent St. Mary’s Catholic School and community events, while pathways connect the park to the neighbourhood.
Naturalized meadows, interpretive planting and trees provide habitat, shade and screening. The pollinator garden features Insect, a sculpture by woodturning artist Stephen Hogbin.
