Enviropark

Sunset Point, Collingwood

In 2018, Envision-Tatham completed a comprehensive public engagement process to guide the redesign of Enviropark, a cherished 2,900m2 waterfront playspace in Sunset Point Park, Collingwood.  This included eight design charrettes with 134 school children from 4 local schools (Grades 1 to 7), families, and the Children’s Treatment Network, focused on creating desired play experiences including Active, Artistic, Creative, Sensory, Games, Social, and Reflective Play.

The resulting design was guided by the public’s clear mandate to create a play environment based on inclusivity principles and to deliver a balanced approach to all play types. Focused around a 25’-tall custom lighthouse play structure, a series of distinct environments were created that are thematically representative of Collingwood’s core attributes, such as the Bay, Wetlands, Town Village, Discovery Beach, Performance Stage, Firefly Forest, and Sensory Gardens.  With connected concrete pathways, rubber safety surfacing, and forest boardwalks with interactive canopy lights, each space offers an inclusive experience for all ages and abilities.

With a total construction value of $1.9M, the reimagined Enviropark, with a new accessible washroom building, opened to the public in the fall of 2022.
