den Bok Family Park
Collingwood – 2024
Located in Collingwood’s Summit View subdivision, den Bok Family Park was shaped through a structured community engagement process that gathered extensive input from neighbourhood residents. Participation extended beyond young families, with seniors notably contributing to ensure that the park would function as a shared neighbourhood hub for all ages. Working with Town staff, Envision-Tatham facilitated an on-site design charrette and prioritization exercise to guide the design and capital investment decisions.
The design anchors the site around a central promenade terminating at a shaded picnic pavilion while defining active and passive amenities through a spatial hierarchy of overlapping circles.
Key features include a multi-use court buffered from residences, separated tot and youth playspaces with an independent swing zone, flexible open lawn areas designed for seasonal skating, looping walking trails, and a quiet Meadow Retreat embedded within a naturalized setting. Grassed berms shape microclimate and informal play, while tree planting and meadow restoration enhance stormwater performance and urban canopy diversity. Playground elements, including a Gold Finch play structure and tulip pod forms, extend the Black Ash Creek meadow theme, reinforcing habitat, seasonal change, and neighbourhood identity.
Together, these elements create a cohesive, multi-generational park that functions as a central gathering space for the Summit View community.
