Sainte-Marie among the Hurons Expansion

In 2011 the historic Sainte-Marie among the Hurons (SMATH) facility was expanded to incorporate a new administration building and expanded parking facilities. Given the historic context of the site and natural surroundings, the expansion visually integrates with the existing facilities and is sensitive to the protected wetland environment of the Wye Marsh. Integrated within an existing valley forest, Envision-Tatham developed the tree protection and buffer enhancement strategy for the project and oversaw its implementation. Through collaboration with our engineers, Low Impact Development (LID) features such as bio-retention swales were designed to support the parking lot expansion and filter storm water sediment and pollutants. Furthermore, the administration building received an appropriate forecourt and frontage planting as an amenity for staff. The project achieved LEED gold certification and serves as a demonstration of the values of Sainte-Marie among the Hurons.
