Black Ash Park

Black Ash Park is a linear park in Collingwood’s Georgian Meadows neighbourhood comprised of a tot playground (West Parkette) and a youth play area (East Parkette) that are linked by woodland trails, forest, a naturalized storm water pond, and the Black Ash Creek corridor. Designed by Envision-Tatham, the park celebrates the natural environment and serves as an example of the positive relationship that can be created through the preservation of nature in a neighbourhood context. Working collaboratively with local residents, the design balances community expectations, environmental integration, and budgetary constraints. The West Parkette (2008) is set within the forest and features tot play structures, a shaded seating area, and a play lawn. Overlooking the pond, the East Parkette (2013) offers independent youth play structures, a basketball half-court, a shade pavilion with game tables, as well as picnic areas and an active play lawn. Ample space is provided for community gatherings and park amenities are located to take advantage of the adjacent forest, pond, and creek scenery. Children and adults alike enjoy the park’s recreational and natural park amenities and Black Ash Park has become a cherished green space for the Georgian Meadows community.
